As neither of us were working Wednesday afternoon this week, Mindy and I decided that we really needed to check out the Christmas market at La Defence. We have both walked by it several times on our way to teach and finally decided that we needed to try some of the delicious foods being offered by the vendors.
We decided on the tartiflette sandwich for our main course as it looked to be the popular choice among the locals. The sandwich consists of a baguette stuffed with ham and then topped with a mixture of potatoes, bacon, lard, cheese and cream (basically carbs, a little protein, and fat, fat, and fat). The combination is incredibly rich and we practically inhaled the sandwich. Just in case you were wondering, it is not WeightWatchers friendly.
After lunch we needed to have some dessert (we are in France where dessert is considered a right, not an option). We settled on a strawberry jam waffle and once again congratulated ourselves for moving to a country with such terrific cuisine.
